While mucormycosis isn’t a new infection, the unproportional use of steroids, prolonged ICU stays and unsanitary conditions have seemed to make recovery problems worse for COVID patients. The highest risk entails those suffering from immunocompromised issues, including uncontrolled diabetes.
Now, the most distinguishing marker of the infection continues to be facial deformity- formation of black crusts, partial paralysis, swelling, persistent headaches and in worse cases, loss of jawbone. However, as treating doctors have been saying, there could be some warning, less-ignored signs as well, which could act as early diagnostic signs of the infection, and need attention, such as improper dental hygiene.
