Two of the four working presidents of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Kuljit Singh Nagra and Sangat Singh Gilzian, met Amarinder on Thursday afternoon to extend two invitations – one endorsed by over 50 MLAs as well as a personal letter by Sidhu to the chief minister, inviting him for the event.
Nagra, after meeting the chief minister, said that he has agreed to participate in the event to be organised at the Congress Bhawan in Chandigarh at 11 am on Friday.
The invitation to Captain Amarinder Singh has been endorsed by over 50 MLAs.
“My resolve and commitment on Punjab’s issues and fulfilling high command’s pro-people 18-point agenda for the welfare of every Punjabi is well known to you and all. I am and will remain steadfast on the commitment with blessings of the Congress workers. I have no personal agenda, only a pro-people agenda. Thus, as the eldest of our Punjab Congress family I request you to please come and bless the new team,” Sidhu said in his letter to the Punjab CM.
Navjot Singh Sidhu’s letter to Captain Amarinder Singh.
Amarinder’s acceptance of the invitation is being seen as a sign of de-escalation of tensions between the two leaders on intervention of the party high command.
Sidhu and Amarinder Singh have been at loggerheads for some weeks, with tensions escalating after the former was elevated to the post of Punjab Congress president.
Amarinder had earlier said he won’t meet Sidhu until the cricketer-turned-politician publicly apologises for his derogatory tweets against the Punjab chief minister.
